As of the US Census Bureau’s 2005-2007 American Community Survey, there were 44,422 people, 19,542 households, and 12,772 families residing in the city.  The racial makeup of the city was 95.1% White, 15.8% of Hispanic, 1.0% Black, 0.2% Native American, 1.0% Asian, 0.4% Pacific Islander, and 2.2% from other races. There were 19,542 Apache Junction real estate households out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.1% were married couples living together, and 34.6% were non-families. Individuals made up 28.2% of all households and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.74.In the city the population was spread out with 26.1% under the age of 20, 6.3% from 20 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 22.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39.2 years. The median income for a household in the city was $39,439, and the median income for a family was $45,129. The per capita income for the city was $19,254. About 10.2% of families and 14.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.7% of those under age 18 and 7.5% of those age 65 or over.
